Special Announcement - Next Blog in Fall of 2018
One of the hardest things to accomplish consistently, at least for me, is allowing my inspiration to guide me. With all of life's tug-of-wars on our time, it is easy to get distracted. Sometimes, we push aside our gut feeling to go one way and end up taking a long trip for no good reason.
This is where I find myself today. Some of you may have noticed that I did not post a blog in May. I fully intended to, but life got in the way. The reasons for this were all very good, but I discovered that I allowed myself to get pulled in too many different directions and disregarded my gut instincts to follow my inspiration. I was not allowing myself to be free to fly!
My to-do list for May was quite long. I helped organize and presented at the Loving Our Earth Expo at my church’s community garden on May 12, which involved a lot of prep work. I also was interviewed by the You Wealth Global Summit on May 16, which not only involved weeks of prep work, but also increased dramatically the number of one-on-one sessions that filled my days after this event. These two big events were in addition to trying to keep up with my book promotions, color work, and meditation classes at local centers. The Inspiration Express Blog kept getting pushed off, day by day, until it was June.
I will admit, I am a little tired right now from that hectic pace. I also have been feeling stressed about the one issue that I have ignored that has been hammering at my insides for the last few months – it’s time to write my next novel.
My writing style may be very different from other authors. When I am writing a novel, I spend about six months of the story and characters being formed in my head. Then, one day out of the blue, I get the impulse to sit down and write. When the story begins to come out of me, I may write for ten straight hours at a time, and, usually within a few weeks or a month, I have the first draft finished. Then I spend months on fine-tuning the story. I have tried to sit down and just write one or two hours a day, but it never comes through that way. Those writing sessions are good for producing an article or blog, but not novels.
My next novel is a family drama around the opioid crisis in America. The theme for the book is about the spiritual nature of butterflies – which represent rebirth. (Possible book title: Butterflies are Free to Fly!) I am so excited to set out to discover how this story will go and what messages it will have for us. See, I never know where the characters and story will lead me, but they always gift us with an amazing truth about who we are.
The problem is, I can’t force the process to go a different way, so I have decided to follow my inspiration this summer and write this incredible story that I have been carrying around in my head for a long time. This means that I will be putting aside most of my other activities, such as marketing, monthly updates, meditation classes and dramatically reducing my session work to concentrate on this book. I have also decided not to record this blog, because of time constraints, too. I hope you understand.
The novel theme of butterflies are free to fly will become my actions as well as my inspiration. I know that the world will not crumble while I take this time off.
It is time to take care of myself this summer and make this story my priority. My goal is to come back to posting my blogs in the fall, after I have the first draft of my story completed.
So, I hope that you will be with me again in the fall and take the same advice for yourself—follow your inspiration this summer! Take time to nurture yourself. Look at where you are in your life and do some inner work, if you feel like you are being pulled in too many directions.
Give yourself permission to follow your inspiration!
Have a great summer and I’ll see you in the fall.
